Portishead 2nd XI vs. Bedminster 2nd XI Played at The Lake Ground on Saturday 11th June 2005 |
| It was carnival time at the Lake Ground as dancers, loud music and storm troopers greeted the Bedminster players. Skipper MacBean added to the slightly unreal air by opting to bowl first on a hard pitch with a slight green tinge, perhaps distracted by the sight of Darth Vader emerging from the pavilion at the critical moment. Moore and Bailey continued their successful opening partnership both striking in their third overs to remove the openers, Bailey accepting a caught and bowled chance and Moore inducing Savory to give Bryant a catch at mid off. Things looked ominous for Bedminster as Bristow drove his first ball through the covers for four. Moore soon solved the problem by sending his off stump cartwheeling. With MacBean bowling the next four batsman, including top scorer Warnes for 47 the hosts never looked likely to set a competitive target. Bryant bowling from the Lake End produced an aggressive 8 over spell and was unlucky to continually beat the bat without reward. Two wickets for Brimble at the end combined with a fine pick up and throw by Bailey to produce a run out saw Portishead bowled out for 116. The total being excellent reward for tight disciplined bowling from all five bowlers. |
| Terry Barnes and Craig White saw the Bedminster reply off to a solid start with 28 coming from the first 7 overs before Barnes was caught for 10. Neil Brown joined White to produce a partnership of substance with both playing each ball on its merits and taking every opportunity to score runs on a good batting track. White eventually lost patience, having been restricted to a diet of singles and gave a catch to end on 27 from 44 balls. The pair adding 44 in 11 overs. Brown soon followed stumped, the keeper claiming the line as his own. That was the home team’s last success as Mark Harrison and George Brimble, batted sensibly with the latter growing in confidence as the innings progressed. Harrison finished things off with 4 fours in 7 balls to give Bedminster victory by 7 wickets and a second 26 point bag in succession. |
