Ladies Day 6th June 2004
Not enough credit is given to the ladies for the work that they do and of course for letting us play the wonderful game that is cricket. This was a chance for them to have a go and try it out for themselves.
First and foremost we have the warm up just to reduce the risk of injury, not performed enough by the men at present !!
Then of course a little taster of batting, bowling and fielding. First batting with the Grip and Stance then the Straight Drive next was the Pull Shot and finally the Forward Defense. Good thing no one had their head up in the air.
Here we have some bowling of various descriptions. Starting simply, then the approach, the release and the follow through.
Now for some fielding. Firstly a little throwing and then a demonstration of some close catching. Some high catching, the one handed intercept and some relay catching. Lucky that everything was in complete control.
And as its ladies day, there is always time for a little pose !!
To finish things off we had a little game and selected Mother and Daughter as opposing captains with the toss being all important.
The first two overs were uneventful with wides mostly dominating the scoring until Shirley smacked the bowling of Kath for a quick two runs. The third over brought the fall of the first wicket with some ambitious running from Julie Connell being the downfall for Shirley Dadds who was Run Out for 2. Alice then came to the wicket and in true one day style scored off each delivery whilst taking a particular liking to her mothers bowling before being Run Out for 7. Julie Connell then proceeded to Run Out Sally for 2 and then her luck quite literally ran out as she was Run Out for 6. Terral and Charlotte were then brought together at the wicket during the sixth over with the score on a healthy 36. They remained together with some nervous moments and were not out at the end with wides contributing mostly to the score. Charlotte made 2 and Terral made 4 with the final score being 60 for 4 off their ten overs.
The second innings started confidently with Hannah and Natalie opening the batting. The run rate was steady until the second over when Alice had Natalie trapped in front of the stumps, LBW for 3. Kath then came to the wicket and built a fine partnership of 37 in three overs before a controversal decision saw Kirsty account for Kath Caught by the wicket keeper for 4. Val then joined Hannah and together they brought the score to 52 off of 8 eight overs. With victory in sight, another controversy ensued with Shirley Dadds bowling under arm with no intervention from the umpire. The over accounted for Val who was caught by Alice for 7, and Jane who was Run Out for 0. With only one run being scored of the previous over, that meant 8 runs were required off of the final over for victory. Maxine had joined Hannah to try for the final push towards victory, but it was not to be with only 6 runs coming off the final over with an excellent knock from Hannah who was 12 Not Out at the end and a valiant effort from Maxine who was 3 Not Out with the final score being 59 for 4 off of their 10 overs.
